Colin AttfieldSitrep 1:- Tributes and remembrances.

Sitrep 2:- Photograph and funeral arrangements

It is with so much sadness that I report that Colin Attfield Crossed the Bar on 30th August 2016 aged 62. I sailed with Colin in 1973 in RFA Bacchus and as I remember he was a Deck Cadet or Third Officer, probably the latter. I believe he rose to Second Officer before he left the Service.

He died in Edinburgh after 18 Months of retirement from the Meterological Office where he had worked as Port Met Officer in Liverpool and then Edinburgh.

Colin's funeral will take place at Weymouth Crematorium (HERE for their website and HERE for a map) on Monday 19th September at 16:00. Old shipmates and colleagues will be most welcome to attend.

Shipmates and colleagues attending the funeral will be invited back by the family for refreshments.

Family flowers only but donations in lieu and if desired should be made to the RFA Association (HERE for their website and HERE for a map).

The arrangements are being made by Co-op Funeralcare Weymouth (HERE for their website and HERE for a map).

On behalf of the RFA Association I offer our sincere condolences to Colin's Mother, sister and all his family.

If you have any remembrances of Colin please email it to me at deputy.chairman@rfa-association.org.uk and I will post them on this page. I am also looking for photographs of Colin for this piece and the RFA Association Gallery and Archive, If you have one please email it to me.

Tributes and Remembrances.

Shaun Jones writes :- What a great pity that Colin aka Bim Bam has passed away. He was literally a larger than life character who was always good company to be in. We served together in various ships in the late 70’s and 80’s prior to Colin leaving and setting up a bar in Thailand called the Double Bubble!!. I think the last time we worked together was on an ERO Course in the 80’s and we also enjoyed an unforgettable Indian meal in Weymouth in the early 09’s when he was Nav/Ops in a LEAF Boat doing OST. Sad loss.

Mike Ainley writes :-Very sad to hear that "Bim Bam" has Crossed the Bar. I sailed with him in Gold Rover when she was Portland tanker in the mid / late 70's.

Colin was great fun and worked hard. Learned a lot from him on my last trip as a cadet.
A great pleasure to sail with, RIP my friend.
