It is with so much sadness that I report that Second Officer (SE) Garry Hogg RFA Crossed the Bar aged 57.

This sad event occurred in RFA Fort Rosalie during a southbound Suez Canal transit on the 8th October 2017, Garry had only joined Fort Rosalie on 3rd October 2017 and intended that this would be his final trip prior to retirement. At the time of writing this Garry's body is resting in Port Said and will be re-patriated via RAF Brize Norton in the next week. There are no further details at the moment but I have spoken to his widow, Diane, who will keep me updated as events unfold. These of course I will post to this page, watch for the Sitreps.

On behalf of the RFA Association I offer our sincere condolences to his widow Diane and all their family.

Alex Blackwood Writes :-

So Sorry to hear  of the sad passing of yet another colleague, this time so young. My sympathy goes to Gary's family. I first knew Garry when he joined Diligence as my "Junior Lecky" (3/O) back in 1986. Garry was fresh out of the RN and, having, so to speak, stepped over the wardroom threshold, took a couple of weeks to adjust to the RFA culture. We never sailed together again but our paths did cross on a Clarke Chapman RAS Rig course and also while we were both in different sections based in Bath at Carpenter House.

A sad loss RIP Garry.
Alex Blackwood.
