Seamen's Hospital Society
The Seamen’s Hospital Society is a long-established maritime charity dedicated to meeting the health, welfare and advice needs of seafarers.
We provide health and welfare grants to seafarers and their dependants, and to the maritime organisations that care for them. We also support a number of other services provided exclusively for seafarers.
If you are or have been a merchant seafarer or fisherman, we’re here to help you and the people who depend on you

The Sailor's Society
The Sailors’ Society provides welfare support for merchant seafarers on board ship and in port
We are an international charity. We sustain a network of professionally trained Chaplains working as ship visitors in ports around the globe providing welfare support to merchant seafarers. Through this network we board ships arriving in port and extend our reach to thousands of seafarers each year to enhance their well-being. We are able to relieve their loneliness, isolation and sometimes distress, and we can assist them if they require help from one or more of our services.

The Mission to Seafarers
In over 100 ports our Flying Angel centres provide a ‘home away from home’ for seafarers who may have been at sea for up to two years. Here they can enjoy time away from their ship and use internet and phone facilities to get in touch with loved ones after months away.

The Dreadnaught Unit
Our Dreadnought unit is the continuation of a tradition of special hospital care for seafarers dating from 1821. The Seamen’s Hospital Society originally established a hospital on a ship moored at Greenwich, and in 1870 it came ashore to the banks of the Thames at Greenwich. In 1986 it moved again to St Thomas’ Hospital.

The Merchant Navy Association
The Merchant Navy Association was “launched” in 1989 and it provided a unique opportunity for seafarers to get together to form a national consensus towards a range of objectives. It was something that should have been initiated many years before that date but has made significant and enduring progress since those formative times.
